My Personal Web Site

Rebooting my Blog

After a long hiatus, I am planning to restart this blog. While different choices of platforms might be available, here are my reasons for continuing work on this blog.

LinkedIn is slowly but surely becoming a common platform for posting information and content similar to the ones I plan to focus on this blog. However, over time LinkedIn has become more restrictive when accessed without an account. This makes it more difficult to access posts. My goal is to have content easily accessible without any login- or paywalls. Therefore, a blog without any login prompts just seems more natural to what I want to do.

Beyond just accessibility, I have to look at the long term. Considering what happened to Twitter, I don’t want to put a lot of work into proprietary websites. To do so would risk a repeat of the Twitter situation, whereby a lot of effort would be lost without a replacement. Given that LinkedIn is proprietary and has already made access harder, I do not want to rely solely on this option. Instead, I want to focus on this blog where something similar is much less likely to happen. In this case, even if the hosting landscape changes, migrating a text-based blog to a new home is significantly easier than trying to rebuild a social media presence from scratch. I also think it is likely that in the future, people will most frequently use an AI overview to get summarized information on one quick glance. For that reason, I expect a blog for sharing information about what I do to be more beneficial than LinkedIn posts. These posts might otherwise be hidden or harder for AI tools to access.

Even though this site has been inactive for some time, I have been busy in the background. I have worked for Adiscon and on rsyslog for quite a while during the silence. I also worked on other projects as part of my study courses. In order to improve consistency and to leave no omissions, I will probably add some additional back-dated articles to give some info on what I’ve been up to in the meantime.
